Formula: Funding Rate = Interest Rate + Clamped Premium Index (range: −0.05% to +0.05%)
Interest Rate: Reflects the cost of holding a position
Premium Index: Reflects how far the perpetual Futures price deviates from the Spot index price
Clamp: Keeps the Premium Index within the specified range (e.g., −0.05% to +0.05%) to prevent short-term price deviations from causing large swings in the funding rate
Funding Rate Example
Suppose the BTCUSDT perpetual Futures price on MEXC is 60,600 USDT, while the Spot index price is 60,000 USDT.
The futures price is above the Spot index price, indicating a positive premium.
Assume:
Premium Index = 0.1%
Interest Rate = 0.01%
Because the Premium Index exceeds the upper limit of +0.05%, it is capped at +0.05% for the calculation.
Funding Rate = 0.01% + 0.05% = 0.06%
In this case, the futures price is above the Spot index price, indicating a bullish bias. As a result, the funding rate is positive. At funding settlement, long position holders pay funding fees to short position holders at a rate of 0.06%.
