For President Donald Trump, it is the worst of the worst things that could happen.
CNN reports that Trump’s poll numbers have hit such new lows amid the Iran war and economic problems that he has finally lost the key demographic upon which he based his platform.
“‘Working-class White voters’ has become shorthand for the kind of voter Trump has locked down to great political effect,” reports CNN. “And 63 percent approved of him in a February 2025 CNN poll.”
“His approval rating among them in the new CNN poll? Just 49 percent,” CNN added — launching a devastating blast at the very bottom of their report.
Polls showing disapproval for Trump have been racking up over the last year, but they kicked into full gear after Trump announced his Liberation Day tariffs. The lingering oiliness over Trump’s connection to convicted sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein continues to be a drag on his approval, and his economic polices are turning off younger voters who are struggling to find entry-level jobs in Trump’s economy.
But now Trump’s broken promise not to send young Americans off to fight in pointless wars is amounting to a massive betrayal of the “America First” premise in the MAGA agenda.
A CNN poll this week of 2024 Trump voters revealed serious disapproval of Trump in many areas, and younger Republican-aligned voters suffering from severe disengagement with the incoming midterms. Just 33 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters younger than 45 said they’re “extremely motivated” to vote, compared with a majority of older Republicans.
In that same poll, CNN reported 30 percent of people approved of Trump on the economy, 28 percent approved of him on Iran and only 22 percent approved of him “overall.”
“Those are large chunks of Trump’s voter base who disapprove of him on some of the central issues of the day — and some of the central issues he campaigned on,” reports CNN. “At this point, whether those voters technically subscribe to the word ‘regret’ is kind of beside the point.”
