Columnist warns Trump's poor decision-making in Iran could lead to global harm

Daily Beast columnist David Rothkopf criticized President Donald Trump's retaliatory decision to block the Strait of Hormuz, writing the president is operating with "the strategic acumen of a four-year-old in a fight on a pre-school playground."

Following Sunday's news, Rothkopf characterized Trump as "undoubtedly the most powerful idiot in the history of the world," arguing his position as president and commander-in-chief makes his incompetence uniquely dangerous.

Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. and Israeli bombing campaigns launched in late February, sending global energy prices soaring.

Rothkopf highlighted Trump's "manifold mental deficiencies," stating the Iran war demonstrates his poor decision-making. He also warned that damage from Trump's policies will increasingly affect more lives in more severe ways.

Rothkopf emphasized that while Trump's power is unparalleled, his idiocy is equally exceptional, and this combination creates unprecedented global harm.
