A little more than 30 years ago, The Rolling Stones delivered the album Voodoo Lounge. The group’s twentieth full-length arrived in the summer of 1994, and the band would promote it for well over a year, doling out four singles from the project.
The last of that quartet was a tune titled “I Go Wild,” and it was selected for promotion in April 1995. A little more than three decades later, “I Go Wild” becomes a bestseller again, as it returns to one chart in the United Kingdom, and it’s not alone. Multiple tunes by the Grammy-winning troupe reappear on the same roster simultaneously after very different journeys.
The Rolling Stones’ “I Go Wild” Returns to One Chart
Two cuts by The Rolling Stones break back onto the Official Physical Singles chart, a list that looks at the bestselling tracks throughout the U.K. that are available on any physical format. For many years, vinyl was a must-own, and then CDs took over the singles market. The introduction of platforms like iTunes and then streaming platforms seemed to have eliminated that part of the music business, but collectibles are back in fashion. These days, the Official Physical Singles tally is often populated by not only older groups and singers, but also some of the hottest hitmakers of today.
“I Go Wild” reenters at No. 76, while “Satisfaction Skank,” a collaboration between The Rolling Stones and Fatboy Slim, comes in even higher. That unlikely pairing breaks back in at No. 55.
The Rolling Stones’ Hits Span Decades on the Chart
Of the 35 tracks The Rolling Stones have pushed to the Official Physical Singles chart, “Satisfaction Skank” and “I Go Wild” almost couldn’t be further separated from one another based on their debut dates. “Satisfaction Skank” didn’t make it to the ranking until February of this year. The tune opened at No. 6, where it held for two frames before sliding backward for more than a month. “Satisfaction Skank” has only been missing from the list for two weeks or so.
“I Go Wild,” meanwhile, earned The Rolling Stones one of the band’s earliest hits on the Official Physical Singles chart. The track debuted in the summer of 1995, earning the group its fourth appearance. The then-current focus was beaten only by “Love Is Strong,” “You Got Me Rocking,” and “Out of Tears,” and “I Go Wild” hit the roster only a year after the band first landed a physical win.
“I Go Wild” Returns After Eight Years
While “Satisfaction Skank” has only failed to reach the Official Physical Singles chart for a few frames this month, “I Go Wild” hasn’t been located on the rundown for eight years. The last time “I Go Wild” landed on the Official Physical Singles roster was in April 2018, when it broke back in at No. 64 and then disappeared just as quickly as it surged. “I Go Wild” launched at No. 29 in the summer of 1995 and spent three weeks backtracking before it stepped away for several decades.
The Rolling Stones Count Four No. 1s
Throughout the years, The Rolling Stones have racked up 16 top 10 hits on the Official Physical Singles chart. That number grows fairly regularly these days whenever the band either releases a tune for the first time or shares it on a physical format, turning it into a must-purchase for die-hard fans. That roundup includes four champions: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Ride ’Em On Down,” “Living in a Ghost Town,” and “Angry.”
