Bari Weiss' newly appointed CBS News anchor sets off a staff revolt

CBS News' newly appointed primetime anchor Tony Dokoupil, hand-selected by network chief Bari Weiss, sparked an internal staff revolt with a controversial introduction, as reported by Vanity Fair Thursday.

In a video manifesto launching the Evening News, Dokoupil criticized "legacy media" for relying on "academics or elites," with Weiss reportedly coaching him off-camera on his lines. Staff became enraged after Dokoupil posted on social media that he would be "more accountable and more transparent than Cronkite or anyone else of his era," prompting a former CBS executive to say he "completely lost the room."

Weiss, a Trump supporter and Israel advocate who left the New York Times to launch The Free Press, now leads CBS alongside network owner David Ellison, son of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison, a Trump supporter and Netanyahu ally.

Critics argue partisan politics motivates the new regime.

The leadership shakeup comes as Weiss faces controversy over the network's attempt to bury reporting on inhumane conditions at a Trump immigration detention facility.
