Nueva Vizcaya eyes China agri tie-up, machinery support

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — Nueva Vizcaya is exploring an agriculture-focused partnership with China that could bring in farm machinery, technical support and modern farming practices to boost local productivity.

The tie-up proposal spawned during a courtesy call by Li Xiaoyan of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag to Governor Jose V. Gambito at the provincial capitol in Bayombong on Monday, where a possible sisterhood agreement with a Chinese province was broached.

Mr. Gambito beamed that talks centered on strengthening Nueva Vizcaya’s farm sector through technology transfer, including access to modern equipment and training to help farmers adapt to emerging agricultural trends and improve yields.

While Ms. Li agreed that deeper cooperation could open doors to exchanges in development, culture and local governance, while also supporting agricultural innovation in Nueva Vizcaya.

Mr. Gambito in welcoming the initiative noted that external assistance would help accelerate programs in agriculture and tourism, especially for a province still building its economic base.

The proposed partnership remains under discussion, with both sides expected to coordinate details covering technical support, resources and possible funding for priority agricultural projects. — Artemio A. Dumlao
