THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) said that it has collected almost P100 million from public auctions as of April 28.

In a statement on Wednesday, the agency said that it successfully conducted a public auction on Tuesday, where it raised P25.55 million from the sale of a Rolls-Royce Phantom (2023).

“The activity was conducted in accordance with established rules and procedures, ensuring an open, fair, and competitive process in the disposal of seized and forfeited goods,” it added.

The recent auction brought the total collections from auctions to P99.51 million, reflecting sustained efforts to maximize the value of forfeited goods and contribute to the BoC’s revenues.

BoC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said that public auction initiatives “ensure forfeited goods are disposed of in a manner that is both transparent and beneficial to the public, while upholding accountability and contributing meaningfully to national development.”

The agency encouraged public participation in upcoming auctions.

In a separate release, the BoC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said that they secured 19 motor vehicles in connection with the Discaya-related tax investigation and collection proceedings.

Out of the total, 15 are registered under the names of the spouses, Pacifico F. Discaya II and Cezarah Rowena Discaya, which were placed under constructive constraint.

Meanwhile, the other four vehicles were subjected to constructive seizure in connection with the existing tax assessment involving St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor & Development Corp.

“We are here to preserve assets and protect the government’s ability to collect taxes, while fully observing due process,” said BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza.

Last year, the BIR filed criminal tax cases with the Department of Justice against the couple for over P7.18 billion in tax liabilities and demanded payment from the company for a final deficiency tax liability of over P998 million. — Justine Irish D. Tabile
