CEBU, Philippines – Award-winning Cebuano performers took the stage for the opening ceremony of the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cebu on Friday, May 8.
Sinulog sa Dakbayan 2025 grand champion Lumad Basakanon, a dance troupe from Barangay Basak, Cebu City, showcased their vibrant local culture and heritage.
A choral ensemble composed of Los Cantantes Cebu and the Cebu City-based Jose R. Gullas Visayas Chorale also sang the ASEAN anthem, titled “The ASEAN Way.” Jonathan Velasco served as conductor.
Los Cantantes Cebu was the champion of the 2024 Taipei International Choral Competition, while the Jose R. Gullas Visayas Chorale was the Grand Prix winner of the 2021 Busan Choral Festival and Competition.
