First international charter flight lands at Bohol-Panglao airport

BOHOL-PANGLAO International Airport (BPIA) said it received its first international charter flight, originating from Japan’s Narita airport.

“This charter flight demonstrates Bohol-Panglao International Airport’s readiness to handle international traffic, connecting travelers to Bohol’s unique experiences and opportunities, while we continue enhancing our facilities and passenger experience to support stronger international operations,” BPIA General Manager Aldwin Uy said in a statement on Monday.

BPIA said the arrival “signals renewed interest from the Japanese market and underscores Bohol’s growing appeal as a premier destination for international travelers.”

Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc., the operator of BPIA, has assessed the airport’s immigration readiness to handle foreign traffic.

For this year, Aboitiz InfraCapital is setting capital expenditure at P8.8 billion to fund expansion at its airport, water, and telecommunications tower businesses.

The company operates Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Laguindingan International Airport in northern Mindanao, and BPIA.

For 2025, Aboitiz InfraCapital said its airports served 16.17 million passengers, driven by growing demand for air travel in the Visayas and Mindanao.

It logged 11.6 million passengers for Mactan-Cebu International Airport, up 3%. The airport currently serves 20 airlines.

Laguindingan International Airport handled 2.35 million passengers, serving three airlines.

Bohol-Panglao International Airport handled 2.22 million passengers in 2025, serving eight airlines. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
