Conservative commentator Ann Vandersteel interpreted the post as intentional trolling designed to distract from other issues. Political scientist Michael Salla viewed the image as Trump signaling that extraterrestrial contact has occurred at the highest government levels and preparing the public for forthcoming UFO file releases.

Other reactions were mixed.
