State Department video makes Trump seem like he doesn’t know where Rubio is from

Secretary of State Marco Rubio just made a hefty blunder that it attributed to President Donald Trump.

The Daily Beast reported on Thursday that an online transcript of Trump answering questions from the press about Cuba that ended up being broadcast via the State Department on social media.

Posting the video, State included a transcript: "We have a lot of people in Cuba. We have the CIA there. [Rubio] is from there, so we have a lot of expertise,” the text of the transcript claims. “We’re going to help the Cuban people out. We’re freeing up Cuba.”

Rubio isn't from Cuba, he is from Miami. His parents, however, fled Cuba in the 1959 revolution.

The problem is that Trump never said that Rubio was from Cuba. State's video falsely cited the president.

The Beast remarked that the elderly president has become confused over the past several years. He can't remember the names of foreign leaders, companies, the names of countries, leading business leaders, and "where exactly his own father was born." Yet, even Trump knew that Rubio wasn't from Cuba.

“Marco is there, Marco’s parents, as you know, were from Cuba," Trump actually said.

Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, Sabrina Singh, who previously served in the Biden administration as the Pentagon press secretary, was asked whether the administration was using a kind of "Venezuelan model" applied to Cuba. In Venezuela, Trump ordered the military to invade briefly and capture Nicolás Maduro for a trial in the U.S.

"I think this administration is edging closer towards that Venezuela model. I think they are laying the groundwork and making the legal case, this time to the American public, on why they might need to take military action in Cuba," Singh said.

Trump's administration hasn't finished the war in Iran and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) continues to have soldiers on hand to police the Strait of Hormuz.

Since the conflict with Venezuela, Cuba hasn't been able to acquire oil due to the U.S. blockade. It comes amid an ongoing oil crisis for the island.

Trump claims that the Cuban government is "ready to fall" and that he thinks it will magically collapse and the U.S. will be able to swoop in and "takeover."

On Wednesday, the Justice Department named several charges against Cuba’s 94-year-old ex-president, Raúl Castro for conspiring to kill U.S. nationals 30 years ago.
