Tron: Ares had a soft start at the box office, earning $14.3 million domestically on Friday — well below the estimated opening of $33 million to $37 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film was projected to open between $40 million and $45 million against a $180 million budget before marketing.

Critics gave Tron: Ares a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences rated it higher at 87%. This surpasses Tron: Legacy‘s 51% score, though the original 1982 film still holds the highest critics’ rating at 60%.

“Leto does well here as the title character, able to deliver a few good lines while executing a rock star strut in a skintight suit… But it’s Lee who steals the show, a very human action heroine for 2025,” Mark Kennedy from The Associated Press penned.

Meanwhile, IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich wrote that Tron: Ares “is a film whose only goal is to make Tron into a renewable resource in its own right… If nothing else, Ares might just be relevant, palatable, and undemanding enough to pull that off.”

When Will Tron: Ares Be Streaming On Disney+?

Tron: Ares is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, so the film will eventually be available to stream on Disney+. The streaming service has not yet announced a release date, but fans can expect the movie to arrive on Disney+ about three to four months after its theatrical debut.

Since Tron: Ares was released on Friday, Oct. 10, the film is expected to be available on Disney+ in early 2026, likely around January or February.

For comparison, Captain America: Brave New World premiered in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025, and was released on Disney+ in May, about three and a half months later.
