Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin, one of the most important names in the cryptocurrency market, introduced the GKR protocol, a proof-of-stake system that allows for very fast proof-of-stake systems.
It was stated that the Goldreich–Kahan–Rothblum (GKR) protocol is a basic protocol designed for fast ZK-EVM and zk-ML proofs.
GKR is an iterative proof-gathering method that verifies large computations with very little on-chain overhead, making it suitable for blockchain and AI workloads.
Buterin noted how GKR processes proofs in logarithmic time without requiring costly intermediate commitments, making it much more efficient than traditional ZK-SNARK or STARK systems.
Stating that GKR’s core strength lies in its scalability, Buterin explained that the GKR protocol is suitable for both blockchain and artificial intelligence workloads.
Vitalik Buterin added that GKR aligns with Ethereum’s broader vision of “Lean Ethereum,” a simplified and quantum-resistant network design. Finally, Buterin noted that GKR directly supports Ethereum’s progress toward faster finality, proof-of-stake, and zero-knowledge-based scalability.
