She gave birth to twins in 2022 and released the EP Clear 2: Soft Life the following year, which went on to earn a Grammy nomination. Earlier this year, she got back on the road as part of Chris Brown’s Breezy Bowl XX tour, and just last week, she racked up two more Grammy nods for “Heart of a Woman,” the lead single off her third studio album Finally Over It, out today. Split up across two parts, appropriately titled “For Better” and “For Worse,” Finally Over It closes a trilogy of albums that Walker first began six years ago. “‘For Better’ is about choosing me, fully and finally,” Walker said of the first half. “I’ve made choices that didn’t always make sense to anyone else, but I don’t regret any of them. They all taught me something.” “’For Worse,’” meanwhile, “isn’t bitter, but honest. I’ve loved too hard, ignored red flags, and tried to fix things that were beyond repair. The difference now is I love myself that deeply, I’ve grown, I’ve healed, and I refuse to accept anything less than princess treatment.” Along the way, Walker teams up with an all-star cast of collaborators including Doja Cat and Latto on “Go Girl,” Anderson .Paak on “1-800 Heartbreak,” Bryson Tiller on “Give Me a Reason,” and 21 Savage on “Get Yo Boy.” She flips a sample of Beyoncé’s “Yes” on the song “No,” and though she bares her emotions on outings like “Scars,” “Heart of a Woman,” and “Stitch Me Up,” she ultimately comes out on top, closing out the album with the fitting title track.

The difference now is I love myself that deeply, I’ve grown, I’ve healed, and I refuse to accept anything less than princess treatment.”

Along the way, Walker teams up with an all-star cast of collaborators including Doja Cat and Latto on “Go Girl,” Anderson .Paak on “1-800 Heartbreak,” Bryson Tiller on “Give Me a Reason,” and 21 Savage on “Get Yo Boy.” She flips a sample of Beyoncé’s “Yes” on the song “No,” and though she bares her emotions on outings like “Scars,” “Heart of a Woman,” and “Stitch Me Up,” she ultimately comes out on top, closing out the album with the fitting title track.

The concept behind Finally Over It wasn’t necessarily anger or frustration with current relationships, but an acceptance of what has been and a preparedness to move on as a more mature and wise person.

“Despite it sounding like I’m ‘finally over it, ’ like, ‘Oh, she’s really mad now,’ it’s more so a different era, putting down the baggage, putting down any stress, and just moving towards a better life,” she told Jennifer Hudson of the project. To drive the point home – no pun intended – she wanted her fans to “move into this era” with her by driving a dump truck around Atlanta and having them get rid of their baggage just like she has. “They threw [away] their teddy bears, their old T-shirts, hoodies, all away, and I’m glad we got to share that with each other – that experience – so they can get ready to be Finally Over It with me,” she said.

The end result is different from the previous two installments in the trilogy because “There’s growth,” she told Complex. “It’s a different sound. It’s more polished.”
