Filecoin (FIL) introduces Onchain Cloud, offering verifiable storage and payments, allowing developers to build applications with transparency and ownership, according to Filecoin.

Filecoin (FIL) has launched its Onchain Cloud, a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide open, verifiable storage and payment solutions on the blockchain. This new platform aims to meet the growing demands for transparency and ownership in cloud services, as stated by Filecoin.

Revolutionizing Cloud Services

The Onchain Cloud is a response to the limitations of traditional centralized cloud services. With artificial intelligence (AI) generating and consuming data at unprecedented scales, and governments enforcing data jurisdiction, the need for a decentralized, verifiable cloud has become evident. Filecoin’s Onchain Cloud promises to deliver just that, offering developers a platform where ownership and transparency are built into the infrastructure.

Key Features of Filecoin Onchain Cloud

Filecoin Onchain Cloud introduces several innovative features:

  • Verifiable Storage: Utilizing content-addressed data, the platform ensures that every file is tamper-proof and verifiable.
  • Programmable Payments: Smart contracts enable automatic payments based on service delivery, eliminating the need for trust-based billing.
  • Decentralized Network: Data is stored across a global network of independent providers, ensuring reliability and control.

Building Blocks and Services

The Onchain Cloud is built on five open-source, composable building blocks:

  • Filecoin Pay: Facilitates onchain payments for verifiable service performance.
  • Filecoin Warm Storage Service: Ensures data is stored and available through Proof of Data Possession.
  • Synapse SDK: Connects developers to Filecoin services via simple APIs.
  • Filecoin Pin: Integrates IPFS and Filecoin for decentralized data persistence.
  • Filecoin Beam: Bridges data movement across onchain and offchain systems.

Implications for Developers

Filecoin Onchain Cloud empowers developers to create applications that are not only verifiable and decentralized but also free from traditional cloud constraints. This platform allows for the development of AI agents, pay-per-request APIs, and other decentralized applications with guaranteed data integrity and transparency.

Future Prospects

As Filecoin prepares to launch the Onchain Cloud on mainnet in January 2026, it marks a significant shift towards a more open and verifiable internet infrastructure. Developers are encouraged to explore the platform’s potential and begin building applications that leverage the power of blockchain technology for cloud services.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
