Crypto News: Coinbase Ventures Maps Out Four Major Crypto Themes for 2026

Coinbase Ventures outlines 2026 crypto themes from RWA perpetuals and new trading models to deeper DeFi integration and AI-driven tools.

Coinbase Ventures recently shared a detailed view of the areas it plans to support through the coming year.

The firm pointed out several themes that could guide its next round of investments, including new trading models, deeper DeFi integration, AI-driven development and the rise of synthetic exposure to real-world assets.

RWA Perpetuals Shape the Next Phase of Synthetic Trading

Coinbase Ventures placed heavy focus on Real-World Asset perpetual contracts. For context, these instruments produce synthetic exposure to off-chain markets.

They do not require custody of any underlying asset and that structure lets teams spin up new markets without the heavy logistics tied to traditional tokenisation.

RWA perpetuals also allow traders to track energy prices, credit spreads, inflation expectations and other macro subjects. The structure also creates room for new categories like private company metrics or custom datasets.

Teams can even replicate these numbers on-chain without the usual token creation process.

RWA value on-chain has surged throughout this year. Data shows that it has grown from about $13.8 billion to roughly $36 billion. Holder numbers climbed as well, and rose more than 7% in one month.

Trading Infrastructure Gains New Designs

The firm also directed attention to new exchange models and trading terminals. Proprietary AMMs, often called prop-AMMs have drawn strong activity on Solana. These systems aim to protect liquidity providers from harmful flow. Some even rely on private pricing formulas or tailored routing rules.

Data from Messari showed that prop-AMMs held between 13 and 24% of Solana’s DEX volume this year. Their rise continued through September, when they beat traditional AMMs for the first time.

HumidiFi played a major role and reached almost half of all SOL to stablecoin DEX volume that month.

DeFi Moves Toward Deeper Integration and Better Privacy

The outlook from Coinbase Ventures described the next stage of DeFi as one driven by deeper protocol connections.

Perpetual futures platforms are linking with lending markets more and more these days.

This creates a setup where collateral can earn yield while also supporting open positions. The blend of staking, lending and leveraged trading reduces the need to split capital across many platforms.

On-chain derivatives reached $1.3 trillion in monthly volume this November. That number has pushed builders to design systems that support hedging, earning and leveraging inside one flow.

AI Expands Into On-Chain Development and Robotics

One of the final themes is centered on the bridge between crypto and AI. Robotic systems need massive amounts of interaction data.

That data helps them to refine motion, shaping and object handling. These datasets are hard to collect through standard channels and as such, DePIN Networks offers a great way to gather data.

Proof-of-humanity tools also continue to gain attention.

These tools aim to confirm that a user is a real person rather than an AI system and some of its methods combine biometrics, cryptographic signing and open standards.

In all, Coinbase expects that trend will continue as teams explore new data models, trading designs, privacy tools and autonomous agents.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
