PANews reported on December 3rd, citing the Securities Times, that a report on artificial intelligence released on December 2nd by the United Nations Development Programme's Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau stated that due to vastly different development foundations across countries, a lack of effective management of AI could widen the gap between nations and exacerbate international inequality. The report stated that while AI opens new paths for development, the disparate starting conditions of different countries result in vastly different situations in seizing opportunities and managing risks. Without strong policy intervention, these gaps could continue to widen, potentially reversing the long-term trend of gradually narrowing development disparities.
