FACT CHECK: Kabataan Representative Renee Co critical of Marcos even before Zaldy Co issue

2025/12/03 19:51

Claim: Kabataan Party-list representative Renee Co is now criticizing the administration of President Ferdinand Jr., because of the issue surrounding her supposed “uncle” Zaldy Co.

Rating: FALSE

Why we fact-checked this: The video has already received 646,000 views, 12,800 reactions, 5,200 shares, and 2,500 comments. It was posted on November 22 amid the recent allegations of the former Ako Bicol Party-list representative, but it still continues to gain traction.

The video shows a clip of Kabataan Party-list Representative saying, “Sindikato ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas at ang nasa tuktok ay si Mafia Boss President Marcos Jr.” (The government is a syndicate and Mafia Boss President Marcos Jr. is the one who rules it.)

The post suggests that Renee Co has taken a position against the Marcos administration only after the recent disclosures about her alleged uncle, Zaldy Co, and anomalous flood control projects. She and Zaldy Co not related.

The text on the video reads, “Bumaliktad kna Din kulot. Pakatotoo lang PO. Renee co nag salita na kasi sabit na tito zaldy co nia (You have finally switched sides, [Renee Co]. Just be honest. Renee Co has already spoken because her Tito Zaldy Co is already involved).”

The facts: Renee Co has not changed her position on Marcos amid the revelations of Zaldy Co. The Kabataan Party-list representative has always been consistent with her statements, criticizing both Marcos and Duterte. Additionally, Renee Co had previously denied having familial ties with Zaldy Co.

On September 21, she called on both Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte to be accountable for the alleged corruption under their administration.

Even before the recent allegations of Zaldy Co, the Kabataan Party-list had already been criticizing the president, not just for flood control corruption and the budget insertion scheme, but also for various issues including the ‘”long overdue” return of PhilHealth funds.

The featured video clip of Renee Co featured her statement after Zaldy Co posted a series of “tell-all” videos dragging former House speaker Martin Romualdez and President Marcos Jr. into the flood control mess.

In the original video, Renee Co said, “Sinisiwalat ng recent exposé na ‘to ang iilang bagay na matagal nang pinopoint out ng Makabayan Bloc tungkol sa Pork Barrel System since nung time pa ni PNoy.” (This recent exposé reveals several things that the Makabayan Bloc has been pointing out about the Pork Barrel System since PNoy’s time.)

Kabataan is calling for an immediate investigation into Marcos’ alleged involvement in corruption.

Kabataan Party-list: Renee Co currently serves as Kabataan Party-list representative who obtained 312,344 votes in the midterm elections. Kabataan is part of the Makabayan Bloc along with Gabriela and ACT Teachers.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
