PANews reported on December 16th that, according to Lianhe Zaobao, a self-proclaimed professional angel investor who claimed to have evaluated countless Web3 projects and was well-versed in online scams inadvertently downloaded a game launcher containing malware while testing an online game. This resulted in the theft of at least 100,000 yuan worth of cryptocurrency assets from his e-wallet. In an interview, the angel investor, Xu Xianlong, recounted his experience of being scammed and used this opportunity to remind the public to be vigilant, not to download software from unknown sources, and never to share their two-factor authentication information with others.

Xu Xianlong said he had been following Web3 since 2017 and was an early investor in the blockchain platform Polygon. On December 5th, while browsing the Telegram chat platform, he saw a post in a group about testing the game project "MetaToy". A user named Shanni then contacted him, claiming to be the "co-founder of the Meta team". Xu Xianlong said he later followed the instructions to download the game launcher, and before he noticed anything amiss, malware had already stolen data from his cryptocurrency wallet. For security reasons, Xu Xianlong even reinstalled his Microsoft system, but the malware remained on his system. He revealed that he reported the incident to the police on Friday (December 12th).
