Carrefour Store Cuts Bills By 20% For Bitcoin Payments

  • Arcachon Carrefour offers 20% off on groceries to customers paying with Bitcoin.
  • Store leverages Bitcoin as both payment method and long-term asset strategy.
  • Lightning Network payments reduce fees, making crypto transactions more efficient.

Carrefour Express shoppers in Arcachon, France, can now unlock a steep discount by paying with Bitcoin. The store offers 20% off the full grocery bill when customers choose BTC at checkout. The move has drawn attention because supermarkets usually run on tight margins. It also pushes Bitcoin spending beyond online stores and into everyday retail, where most people still rely on cards and cash.

Local Carrefour Store Sparks Global Attention

The promotion comes from a single Carrefour Express franchise at 9 Allée de la Chapelle in Arcachon. It does not represent a chain-wide rollout across Carrefour’s 14,000 stores worldwide. However, the store’s pricing decision has fueled debate about whether Bitcoin can compete with traditional payments in real life.

Changpeng Zhao, Binance’s founder and former CEO, reacted to the claim with surprise. He said he did not expect Carrefour margins to support a 20% discount. Observers also pointed out that the offer shows unusual confidence from the store owner. Hence, the move looks less like a short-term stunt and more like a calculated bet.

Why a 20% Discount Could Still Add Up

Food retailers often operate with thin profits, so a 20% cut seems risky at first. However, the merchant may view the discount as the cost of acquiring Bitcoin. The shop trades a portion of today’s revenue for an asset it expects to hold longer.

Additionally, Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network can settle quickly with lower processing costs. This may reduce card-related fees and speed up access to funds. Consequently, the store may see Bitcoin payments as more efficient than some traditional systems.

Bitcoin Payments Move From Novelty to Strategy

Other Carrefour-linked stores in France already accept Bitcoin through franchise decisions. Reports have mentioned locations in Normandy, including Rouen, Le Havre, Elbeuf, Quincampoix, and Isneauville. However, those stores did not offer customers a direct financial incentive.

Significantly, the Arcachon store turns the payment method into a price lever. Customers can lower their total bill while the shop builds Bitcoin reserves. Moreover, the merchant can keep euro liquidity from other shoppers to cover daily costs.

Best Crypto to Buy as Saylor & Crypto Execs Meet in US Treasury Council

The post Best Crypto to Buy as Saylor & Crypto Execs Meet in US Treasury Council appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Michael Saylor and a group of crypto executives met in Washington, D.C. yesterday to push for the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill (the BITCOIN Act), which would see the U.S. acquire up to 1M $BTC over five years. With Bitcoin being positioned yet again as a cornerstone of national monetary policy, many investors are turning their eyes to projects that lean into this narrative – altcoins, meme coins, and presales that could ride on the same wave. Read on for three of the best crypto projects that seem especially well‐suited to benefit from this macro shift:  Bitcoin Hyper, Best Wallet Token, and Remittix. These projects stand out for having a strong use case and high adoption potential, especially given the push for a U.S. Bitcoin reserve.   Why the Bitcoin Reserve Bill Matters for Crypto Markets The strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill could mark a turning point for the U.S. approach to digital assets. The proposal would see America build a long-term Bitcoin reserve by acquiring up to one million $BTC over five years. To make this happen, lawmakers are exploring creative funding methods such as revaluing old gold certificates. The plan also leans on confiscated Bitcoin already held by the government, worth an estimated $15–20B. This isn’t just a headline for policy wonks. It signals that Bitcoin is moving from the margins into the core of financial strategy. Industry figures like Michael Saylor, Senator Cynthia Lummis, and Marathon Digital’s Fred Thiel are all backing the bill. They see Bitcoin not just as an investment, but as a hedge against systemic risks. For the wider crypto market, this opens the door for projects tied to Bitcoin and the infrastructure that supports it. 1.
