MANILA, Philippines – An impeachment complaint was filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with the House of Representatives on Monday, January 19.
Numerous media reports said the petition was endorsed by Congressman Jett Nisay, who represents party-list group Pusong Pinoy.
The media has yet to receive a copy of the complaint, as of writing.
This is the first impeachment complaint filed in 2026, and the first petition slapped against Marcos. In May 2025, the Cardemas tried but failed to submit a complaint before the House’s Office of the Secretary General.
The timing of the complaint is backdropped by growing public outcry over the flood control scam, the biggest corruption scandal faced by the Marcos administration.
Endorser Nisay himself is a contractor who owns JVN Construction and Trading.
He is among the eight lawmakers, alongside resigned congressman Zaldy Co, whose names were recommended by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure to the Office of the Ombudsman for the filing of plunder and graft charges.
A quick look at the DPWH database indicates JVN won P73 million in public works projects in Bataan in 2021 and 2022, before Nisay was elected congressman.
Nisay was among the 215 lawmakers who backed the impeachment complaint of Vice President Sara Duterte in February 2025.
While the House is constitutionally mandated to act on the complaint, its chances of success remain low, with the rules committee of the chamber being led by the President’s son, Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.
Aside from Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte is also expected to face another impeachment effort against her once her one-year immunity lapses in February.
