Tether and Bitqik prioritize education to support responsible Bitcoin and stablecoin use within Laos’ tightly regulated crypto market.

Tether and Bitqik have launched a joint crypto education program in Laos focused on Bitcoin and stablecoins. The program will run through 2026 and targets students, entrepreneurs, and local communities nationwide. Organizers say the lessons will focus on real-world use cases as interest in digital assets grows across the country.

Crypto Education Push in Laos Targets 10,000 Participants

Tether has partnered with Bitqik, one of only two licensed digital asset exchanges in Laos. Bitqik operates under approval from the Bank of Laos and provides brokerage and trading services for cryptocurrencies. Both companies share the view that access to clear information is essential before digital assets can play a meaningful role in daily financial activity.

Through this partnership, students will have access to online learning materials. Also, quarterly in-person events will be held in major cities, including Vientiane, Pakse, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang.

Sessions will cover Bitcoin basics, responsible investing, and the use of stablecoins in daily financial activity. Organizers say the focus is on clear explanations and practical examples. This will help participants understand how digital assets work rather than promoting short-term trading.

More than 10,000 people are expected to take part through seminars, roadshows, and online content. Bitqik says its goal is to help users make informed decisions and understand the benefits and risks of digital assets.

USDT Takes Center Stage in New Literacy Push

A key part of the program centers on USDT, Tether’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin. Educational content will explain how stablecoins function, why price stability matters, and how such assets are used for payments, savings, and transfers.

Bitqik says stablecoins are already becoming more common in local digital finance, especially for cross-border transfers. The program will break down these uses in clear language and address common questions around trust and transparency.

“Financial inclusion depends on understanding, not just access,” said Paolo Ardoino, chief executive officer of Tether. He added that community-level education is critical to helping people participate in the digital economy with confidence.

Laos Maintains Tight Grip on Crypto Trading Under Pilot Regulatory Framework

Laos is still testing its approach to cryptocurrency through a pilot regulatory framework that limits trading to licensed companies approved by the Bank of Laos. Bitqik received its operating license in January 2022 alongside LDX. This places both exchanges among the only regulated platforms allowed to offer digital asset trading in the country.

Regulatory challenges remain in Laos despite recent progress. The Financial Action Task Force raised concerns in 2023 about weak oversight of crypto activity in the country. These findings suggest limits in monitoring and control.

At the same time, local authorities have announced plans to shut down cryptocurrency mining operations by early 2026. Power used for mining is expected to be redirected to data centers and other technology-related projects.

Within this environment, education efforts are seen as a way to reduce misuse and improve understanding among users.

Long-Term Focus on Informed and Responsible Crypto Use in Laos

The Laos program follows similar education partnerships launched by Tether in Thailand and several African markets. With USDT valued at about $136 billion, the company has increasingly tied its growth to education in emerging economies.

Bitqik CEO Virasack Viravong said the partnership will run throughout 2026 and include regular public activities. He noted that greater access to knowledge can help Lao users approach digital assets with clearer expectations and better risk awareness.

Both companies say the long-term aim is to support informed participation in digital finance, aligned with local rules and market needs.
