Hello there!

This Saturday, January 24, Linya-Linya and Rappler will launch a good governance campaign for Gen Z and millennials.

Before I’m accused of age-ism, I want to clarify that everyone is invited to the launch and to join the campaign!

But there’s a reason why we’re paying particular attention to young Filipinos. Data from the Commission on Elections shows that Gen Z and millennials make up over 60% of our voting population, as of 2025. Filipinos aged 18 to 45 are the biggest voting bloc in terms of age in this country.

This is the same age group that grew up with social media and are so-called “digital natives.” The same group that have, at most, infant memories of the Marcos dictatorship and the 1986 EDSA Revolution. The same group that is confronted by disinformation at an almost unfathomable scale, internet enshittification, and generative AI.

Linya-Linya and Rappler believe that the more involved Gen Z and millennials are with the movement for good governance, the better off our country will be.

The median age of Rappler staff is a millennial age. This reel posted recently by Linya-Linya pokes fun at their staff born in the 1990s, because most of their staff are 2000s babies.

Elections may be two years away, but it has become top of mind for many of us, as we witnessed the surrender of former senator Bong Revilla.

One of our video editors, Jaene Zaplan (millennial), posted this on Facebook:

“Déjà vu! The surrender of former senator Bong Revilla at the Sandiganbayan over flood control anomalies echoes his 2014 pork barrel case. Nothing changes unless Filipinos vote wiser!”

You will likely have come across Linya-Linya’s shirts on the streets during rallies. Or perhaps you or someone you know wears one of their witty lines (I gifted my husband with one of their “MaabiliDAD” shirts).

On Saturday, we will be launching a shirt that goes with the campaign, a shirt with one simple message: “Mabuting Pamamahala.”

It’s the first iteration of our #MabutiPa call — about agency, empowerment, and the need to act now. Mabuti pa, kumilos na tayo. Mabuti pa, aksiyunan natin ito. Mabuti pa, bumoto tayo ng taong may integridad.

It’s about not waiting for others to act, not waiting for permission to do the right thing. Because the young generation is not the generation of tomorrow, but the generation of today. Because young Filipinos are not the future, but the present. We have the power to make or break this country, and we should grab that opportunity by the horns before it’s too late.

Join us on Saturday, at 2 pm, at Linya-Linya’s headquarters in Libis, Quezon City. Buy tickets here.

For those living in other parts of the country, we aim to bring the campaign to you, whether through future events, through the shirts, or through our online campaigns.

The #MabutiPa campaign will stretch until 2028, the next national elections. We hope that’s enough time to spread this campaign far and wide, with your help.

On Saturday, we’ve invited popular and beloved comedians and content creators who have used humor and wit to talk about good governance and fighting corruption.

Ansis Sy’s “Auntie” character pokes fun at politicontractors and extreme signs of wealth. Raco Ruiz parodies nepo babies. SPIT Manila, represented by Monica Cruz, regularly does improv about politics. In fact, the day after the last elections, I and the rest of Rappler’s Community team watched SPIT’s election-themed show live.

It’s storytelling like this that helps widen the conversation about good governance and accountability. We hope more young people join this national conversation.
