Who is Ray Muratalla?

He’s unbeaten, but largely unproven.

Muratalla, from West Covina, California, is 23-0 with 17 KOs, having turned pro in 2016 and run through progressively tougher opposition on U.S. television cards. He captured the IBF lightweight title by outpointing Zaur Abdullaev in May 2025 and was elevated from interim to full champion when Vasiliy Lomachenko retired that June.

This Cruz fight marks his first full title defense.

Who is Andy Cruz?

Cruz is an elite talent and trying to follow a path similar to the one Vasyl Lomachenko made legendary.

As an amateur, Cruz won three AIBA World Championships, two Pan American Games golds and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medal at lightweight, cementing himself as one of the best Cuban boxers of his era.

Since turning pro in 2023, he’s moved quickly to 6-0, including a dominant stoppage of Hironori Mishiro in June 2025. Many see him as a live threat to Muratalla’s belt, and a win would put him on the fast track Lomachenko blazed years ago.
