FC Barcelona star Gavi has been left furious with the club for not making more of an effort with the now departed La Masia academy graduate Dro Fernandez according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

It has already been well-documented how head coach Hansi Flick wasn’t happy when Dro dropped a bombshell on the German less than a fortnight ago, and explained that an unnamed club was set to trigger his release clause.

Flick, who personally promoted the youngster from the reserves, was said to have called the turn of events the “biggest disappointment of my life”, just hours before the buying party was revealed to be Paris Saint-Germain.

Blaugrana legend and PSG manager Luis Enrique personally persuaded Dro to switch allegiances, with the transfer then confirmed at the turn of the week as European giants prepare for their last Champions League league phase matches.

FC Barcelona top brass wasn’t the only angry party

While Barca higher ups and Flick have been spitting feathers over Dro’s departure, so too has Gavi.

According to SPORT, the Andalusian voiced his frustration that more should have been done to keep the midfielder.

If he’d been managed better and given more minutes, perhaps Dro would have stayed after all is apparently Gavi’s line of thought.

Debuting in the Champions League and notching an assist against Olympiakos, Dro hadn’t played since a December 2 win over Atletico Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou while overlooked for Copa del Rey clashes with lower tier opponents which are often used to give youth and fringe players a run out.

Dro was visibly upset with not gracing the pitch in the victory at Guadalajara’s expense in the latter-mentioned competition, and the rejection perhaps played a part in turning his head alongside PSG’s bigger pay packet.

Gavi and Dro would have been positional rivals at FC Barcelona

Known for fighting his teammates’ corner, Gavi and Dro share the same agent but it’s also interesting that the former wanted to keep a player that would’ve been a positional rival.

Gavi is currently out injured with a knee knock, but he and Dro would have faced competition for the CAM spot upon the Spain international’s return in a talent-packed fight that also includes Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez.

With neither Gavi nor Dro, FC Barcelona will face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday as Flick picks both Olmo and Fermin to line up in midfield.
