Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin proposed a new creator token model that combines DAOs and prediction markets to encourage high-quality content production. Creator tokens, as blockchain-based assets, reward content creators by providing fans with ownership, access rights, or royalty shares. However, existing platforms prioritize mass production, and the problem is growing with AI-generated content. In a post on the X platform, Buterin suggested that creators mint tokens and apply to curated creator DAOs, DAO members decide on acceptance, and speculators profit from predictions on acceptance.

Accepted creators’ tokens can be burned by the DAO to reduce supply and increase value. This mechanism provides sustainability similar to Ethereum’s EIP-1559 burn model. Buterin noted that on platforms like BitClout and Zora, celebrities’ dominance makes merit-based success difficult, and recommended that DAOs focus on specific niches: short videos, long-form writing, content targeted at specific countries or political audiences.
