U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. Jeanine Pirro faced backlash after trying to walk back her remarks, which vowed to prosecute gun crimes in Washington, D.C.

In an interview on Fox News this week, Pirro insisted that anyone who brought a gun into the district should "count on going to jail."

"I don't care if you have a license in another district, and I don't care if you're a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else," she told Fox News.

On Tuesday, Pirro posted on X to try to blunt criticism of her remarks.

"Let me be clear: I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment," the U.S. Attorney insisted. "Washington, D.C. law requires handguns be licensed in the District with the Metropolitan Police Department to be carried into our community."

"We are focused on individuals who are unlawfully carrying guns and will continue building on that momentum to keep our communities safe," she added.

Her comments, however, did not seem to soothe critics.

"This is not being clear. You said what you said," Patrick Jaicomo wrote.

"This is not what you said. You told us to mark your words, and we did," Hannah Hill insisted.

"Let me be clear, that law is a violation of our rights and you of all people should be fighting against it," a commenter from Texas complained.

"You are not pro 2A if you require a license," Tyler McFarland quipped.
