PANews reported on February 9th that, according to South Korean media SBS, 125 bitcoins (worth approximately 13 billion won, or $8.88 million) remain unrecovered after a large-scale erroneous transfer of bitcoins by the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb. An investigation has confirmed that over 80 users have already converted the mistakenly received bitcoins into cash. Of this, approximately 3 billion won was transferred to personal bank accounts, and another 10 billion won was used by users to purchase other cryptocurrencies. Bithumb is contacting the affected users to persuade them to return the proceeds.
Previously, it was reported that Bithumb made an operational error during the distribution of event rewards, resulting in the wrong distribution of a total of 620,000 bitcoins, of which 99.7% has been recovered.
