"Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek died Wednesday. He was 48.

The actor shared in 2024 that he was battling colorectal cancer and last year described his struggle in an interview with "Good Morning America," TMZ reported.

He was known for his famous role as the lead, Dawson, in the television show "Dawson's Creek." In September, Van Der Beek was forced to drop out of the cast reunion for the popular show over his health.

He also had prominent roles in the films "Scary Movie," "Varsity Blues" and "Pose."

His family shared a statement on his Instagram account.

"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
