TLDR

  • Three masked suspects targeted Binance France head in Val-de-Marne.
  • Attackers searched two locations but failed to find their target.
  • Police tracked stolen phones and arrested suspects in Lyon.
  • France has seen a rise in crypto-linked wrench attacks since 2025.

The head of Binance France was targeted in a failed home invasion in Val-de-Marne, and three suspects are now in custody. The attempted attack adds to a series of crypto-linked incidents reported across France.

David Princay, head of Binance France, was the reported target of the incident early on Feb. 12. Local outlet RTL reported that three masked men forced entry into a residential building while searching for the executive.

First attempted break-in in Val-de-Marne

According to police reports cited by RTL, the suspects entered a residential building during the early hours of Thursday morning. The men were reportedly armed and wore masks.

They searched the building for Princay but failed to locate him. During the intrusion, they took two mobile phones before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Authorities were alerted shortly after the break-in. Police began tracing the stolen devices and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. The investigation moved quickly due to the nature of the target.

Second failed attempt in Vaucresson

Roughly two hours later, the same group allegedly attempted a second home invasion in Vaucresson. Investigators believe the suspects were again trying to locate the Binance France executive.

Reports indicate that the suspects went to the wrong address. They were unable to find their intended target and left the area soon after. No injuries were reported in connection with this second attempt.

Law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts across locations. Surveillance footage and mobile tracking data helped identify the suspects’ movements. The suspects were later seen boarding a train bound for Lyon.

Arrest in Lyon and ongoing investigation

Police tracked the stolen phones and monitored train routes. The Brigade de Recherche et d’Intervention arrested the three suspects at Lyon Perrache station later that day.

The suspects were taken into custody and remain under investigation. Authorities have not released further details about their identities or possible charges. Investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

The Block reached out to Binance for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication. Police have not disclosed whether the suspects had prior links to other cases.

Rise in crypto-linked wrench attacks in France

France has recorded an increase in so-called wrench attacks targeting crypto holders and executives. These incidents involve physical threats to gain access to digital assets.

Throughout 2025, several cases involved kidnappings and ransom demands tied to cryptocurrency. In June 2025, a 23-year-old near Paris was targeted in what was reported as the tenth crypto-related attack of the year.

Other cases involved suspects accused of demanding millions in ransom from relatives of crypto entrepreneurs. Authorities also reported a failed crypto ransom attempt linked to the kidnapping of a magistrate.

Law enforcement agencies have continued to monitor such cases closely. The attempted attack on the Binance France head follows this pattern of targeting individuals associated with digital assets.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspects in this case were connected to other crypto-related incidents. The investigation remains active as officials examine evidence and question those in custody.
