Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has had his campaign reported to the police by one of his main primary rivals — but at least outwardly, he isn't projecting any concern at all.

On Tuesday, Rep. Wesley Hunt, who is challenging Cornyn for the nomination, filed a report with the Harris County Constable's Office, accusing Cornyn's campaign of illegally revealing personal information about Hunt and his family. The controversy started when one of Cornyn's campaign strategists shared an image of Hunt's 2016 provisional ballot, alleging that he lied about the term of his military service to request a ballot for a race he wasn't registered to run in. The ballot did not have any of Hunt's personal information redacted.

"The tragic situation involving Savannah Guthrie is a painful reminder of how vulnerable our family truly is," said Hunt in a recent interview with Fox News. "They should never be put in harm's way. And yet, that's exactly what happened to my family."

Cornyn, however, hit back with a post on X, denying his campaign had done anything illegal.

"How dumb," said Cornyn. "It was public information and you lied. Pathetic attempt at deflection."

The Texas GOP primary has become a three-way race between Cornyn, Hunt, and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has led both of them in most recent polls. Paxton has taken Hunt's side on the issue, saying, "The first thing that needs to be investigated is why a staffer for John Cornyn is publicly listing the address of a member of Congress and/or his family. I've seen a lot of pathetic campaigning out of the Cornyn camp, but this reaches an all-time low."

The Democratic side, meanwhile, has mostly been a contest between Dallas-area Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and Austin-area state Rep. James Talarico, the latter of whom was thrust into a national spotlight this week after CBS blocked Stephen Colbert from airing an interview with him.
