A tourist from the United Kingdom to the United States is sounding the alarm and warning others after her nightmare ICE experience.

The Guardian heading into the weekend reported on the story of Karen Newton, who found herself in ICE custody for six weeks despite being a legal visitor.

In an article called, "'Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: the UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeks," the outlet reports Newton "was in America on the trip of a lifetime when she was shackled, transported and held for weeks on end. With tourism to the US under increasing strain, she says, ‘If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone’."

The Guardian reported, "When Karen Newton left home in late July 2025, she knew that international travellers were being locked up in immigration detention centres in the US. 'I was aware,' she nods. 'But I never thought it would have any impact on my holiday.' Karen, 65, had a British passport and a tourist visa. She hadn’t been abroad for eight years, and was keen for some guaranteed sun. 'I really just wanted to get away from the house.'"

But her time turned terrifying when they tried to leave the US.

"The dream holiday ended abruptly on Friday 26 September, as Karen and Bill were trying to leave the US. When they crossed the border, Canadian officials told them they didn’t have the correct paperwork to bring the car with them," according to the report. "They were turned back to Montana on the American side – and to US border control officials. Bill’s US visa had expired; Karen’s had not."

Thing escalated quickly from there, the report states.

"She didn’t know it at the time, but it was the beginning of an ordeal that would see Karen handcuffed, shackled and sleeping on the floor of a locked cell, before being driven for 12 hours through the night to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centre. Karen was incarcerated for a total of six weeks – even though she had been travelling with a valid visa."

According to her, there was a sinister motive behind it all.

"So why did ICE detain her, and keep her locked up for so long? A possible answer began to emerge over the weeks she was incarcerated. As Karen got to know the guards at the Northwest ICE Processing Center where she was held, she kept hearing the same thing from them: that ICE officers are paid a bonus every time they detain someone. 'Individual ICE agents get money per head that they detain – the guards told me that,' Karen says."

Donald Trump on Saturday proposed a new end-run around the Supreme Court's major tariff smackdown, leading observers to call on him to take his medication.

The president over the weekend took to Truth Social to announce he was raising the global tariff rate to 15% using a law never invoked by a US president before.

"Based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday, after MANY months of contemplation, by the United States Supreme Court, please let this statement serve to represent that I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been 'ripping' the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level," Trump raved. "During the next short number of months, the Trump Administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible Tariffs, which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again - GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!"

Political analysts and experts called the plan illegal.

Dem strategist Jon Cooper responded by saying that "Trump CANNOT legally impose a 15% global tariff because the US doesn’t meet the clear emergency economic conditions envisioned by Section 122."

"If Trump tries to invoke it, it would certainly face immediate legal challenges, economic pushback, and potential congressional scrutiny," he then added.

Author James Surowiecki chimed in, "Just ridiculous. Trump raising his temporary tariffs on the entire world to 15%, while making it clear that the tariffs are being imposed not because of a balance-of-payments deficit (the only basis on which he can legally impose these tariffs) but for 'retribution.'"

Rep. Don Beyer added, "Trump’s tariffs were so blatantly illegal that even his handpicked justices struck them down. Fresh off announcing new tariffs to jack up prices for the American people, he’s already raising these illegal taxes again. These tariffs will require a vote in Congress later this year, if not sooner. I will be working to ensure they are rejected, and to build a coalition to restore Congress’ ironclad authority to regulate trade."

Tax expert Erica York said, "It’s absolutely time for Congress to put an end to this madness."

Journalist David Stockman added, "Help.....the man needs his meds!!"

Donald Trump on Saturday revoked his endorsement for a Republican congressman, instead backing a challenger.

Trump over the weekend continued to lash out after the Supreme Court struck down his key tariff policy goals. The president first struck out at the Supreme Court Justices who ruled against him, and then took out his frustration on a GOP lawmaker.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Based on a lack of support, in particular for the unbelievably successful TARIFFS imposed on Foreign Countries and Companies which has made America Richer, Stronger, Bigger, and Better than ever before, I am hereby WITHDRAWING my Endorsement of RINO Congressman Jeff Hurd, of Colorado’s 3rd District, and fully Endorsing Highly Respected Patriot, Hope Scheppelman, to take his place in Congress."

He added, "Congressman Hurd is one of a small number of Legislators who have let me and our Country down. He is more interested in protecting Foreign Countries that have been ripping us off for decades than he is the United States of America. Taking back an Endorsement is a difficult decision for me. I have only done it once before, with a former Congressman named Mo Brooks, from Alabama, who was leading by 54 points after my Endorsement for U.S. Senate, and then, he unexpectedly, for strictly political reasons, changed his views on the Rigged Election of 2020, and lost his Race in a Landslide to Katie Britt, who I Endorsed. These are the decisions that must be made, however, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Trump went on to say:

"On the other hand, Hope Scheppelman is a distinguished Critical Care Nurse Practitioner, and a brave U.S. Navy Veteran, who knows the America First Policies required, and will do everything necessary to Defend our Country, Support our Military/Veterans, and Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH. In Congress, Hope will work tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advocate for our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Safeguard our Elections, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

He then concluded, "Hope Scheppelman has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District and, unlike RINO Jeff Hurd, HOPE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"

The lawyer who successfully argued at the Supreme Court against Donald Trump's signature policy, leading to a massive blowup aimed at certain Justices, used the administration's own argument against the president's new plan to circumvent the legal smackdown.

Neal Katyal argued against Trump's tariffs before the nation's highest court, which rejected the Trump policy plank in a devastating blow after hearing arguments several months ago. Trump then imposed a new plan: namely, that he would raise global tariffs to 15% using a law never invoked by a president before, according to reports.

But there's a problem with that plan, according to Katyal. For starters, according to the attorney, it flies in the face of a previous argument Trump's administration made in court.

"Seems hard for the President to rely on the 15 percent statute (sec 122) when his DOJ in our case told the Court the opposite: 'Nor does [122] have any obvious application here, where the concerns the President identified in declaring an emergency arise from trade deficits, which are conceptually distinct from balance-of-payments deficits,'" Katyal wrote on Saturday.

He then added, "If he wants sweeping tariffs, he should do the American thing and go to Congress. If his tariffs are such a good idea, he should have no problem persuading Congress. That’s what our Constitution requires."

Ex-GOP lawmaker Barbara Comstock flagged the development, writing, "Whoops - Katyal reminds Team Trump of their own arguments…"

"Trump not having good lawyers or no lawyers or ignoring lawyers is always a problem for Trump," she added.
