Red state Republican addresses rumors he's fleeing Congress early

A Florida Republican shut down rumors Monday that he was joining numerous House colleagues in fleeing for the exits amid President Donald Trump's dismal poll numbers.

Rep. Neal Dunn slammed the brakes on resignation speculation, declaring he's staying put in Congress through the end of his term, Politico reported.

The announcement came from Dunn's spokesperson, Eleanor Allison.

"As a dedicated public servant, he will remain in Congress to represent his constituents through the end of this term," Allison declared.

The timing of the statement comes hot on the heels of Speaker Mike Johnson publicly urging Dunn to stick around, with GOP brass fearful that losing another seat could see their razor-thin House majority slip away.

Dunn previously announced his retirement in January, citing health issues. That triggered alarm bells among senior House Republicans, who feared the congressman might step down in the coming months.
