Starlink resumes taking new orders in Lagos and Abuja, but only for its “Business” package

Starlink has resumed accepting new orders in major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, where it previously stopped accepting new orders.

However, the resumption comes at a higher price.

Starlink is only accepting new orders for its priority plan: Starlink for Business, which comes with a service cost of N150,000 per month and a hardware cost of up to N2.4 million.

Recall that the Elon Musk-owned satellite internet company stopped accepting new orders in some of Nigeria’s busiest urban areas after reaching full capacity.

New orders opening on its platform show that the company has temporarily switched order requests from personal kits to business kits and services.

“Due to high demand in your area, only Priority Plans are available in your area,” a statement on the pre-order page reads.

Starlink for Business offers high-speed, low-latency satellite internet designed for enterprises, featuring 100-350 Mbps download speeds, priority 24/7 support, and rugged “High Performance” hardware.

In comparison with the Residential package, the Business is larger and more powerful, designed for higher usage and entirely built for enterprise reliability. Starlink Business generally outpaces Residential, but not always in terms of maximum speed. Instead, its advantage lies in consistency, uptime, and reliability.

For users in Nigeria, especially in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, the total due upfront payout for that package is N2,381,950, according to the company’s payout page. The fee includes shipping and handling, and taxes/fees.

While the Standard hardware of N590,000 is listed, it remains unavailable for activation in Nigeria’s busiest area due to the ongoing restrictions.

Also, the monthly subscription is priced at N150,000, compared to N57,000 for the Residential package plan.

Why the sudden switch

Starlink has faced consistent capacity issues that signal an increasing demand and usage of its service in Nigeria.

In November 2024, the satellite network provider suspended sales of kits and activations in Nigeria after facing issues relating to bandwidth shortages and unresolved tariff adjustment disputes with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The company only resumed nationwide sales in July 2025 before entering another phase of restriction in September 2025.

For Starlink, restrictions are necessary as measures to maintain quality service for other users when their service reaches optimal capacity in a particular location. Once an area reaches its designed capacity, it becomes impossible to accept new customers.

However, the latest switch, termed a waiver, from Residential to Business, signals how Starlink is introducing initiatives to monitor its limited space.

While it’s costly for potential users in Nigeria’s busiest cities, prioritising higher-value business customers is a way for Starlink to manage the limited capacity while still onboarding new revenue-generating users.

Starlink

Starlink has yet to provide information on when normal residential sales will be affected or how it plans to expand its coverage.

Please note that we cannot provide an estimated timeframe for service availability, but our teams are working as quickly as possible to add more capacity to the constellation so we can continue to expand coverage for more customers around the world,” the company said on its platform.

As the company is temporarily restricting new customers to its higher-priced business plan in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, prospective users in these areas face a dire decision impacted by affordability.
