On February 28, PANews reported that, according to CoinDesk , nine Democratic senators sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Attorney General Pam Bondi , requesting an investigation into Binance 's controls regarding sanctions compliance and anti-money laundering. The senators stated that recent media reports indicated that Binance -related transactions may have funded terrorist organizations and entities circumventing sanctions, and that some compliance personnel responsible for uncovering these transactions had been dismissed. Signatories include Elizabeth Warren , Mark Warner , and several other senators involved in negotiating the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, and the senators requested that the two departments assess whether Binance has complied with its compliance obligations under the 2023 settlement reached with the U.S. The senators also mentioned Binance's connections to Trump -backed crypto project World Liberty Financial and the USD1 stablecoin, as well as Trump's previous pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.
