Ripple to Obtain Australian Financial Services License

Ripple plans to secure an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) by acquiring BC Payments, enabling the blockchain payments provider to offer end-to-end transaction management for cross-border transfers across Asia Pacific.

The license allows Ripple to directly manage settlement, connect customers to local payout partners, and optimize transaction routing. Ripple Payments will handle the full lifecycle of transactions from onboarding and compliance through funding, foreign exchange, liquidity management, and final payout, while integrating both traditional banking rails and digital assets.

"Licensing is fundamental to Ripple's strategy, ensuring we can deliver secure, compliant solutions to customers worldwide," Fiona Murry, managing director for Asia Pacific, said in a statement. "Australia is a key market for Ripple, and an AFSL strengthens our ability to scale Ripple Payments across the region."

Ripple said its payments volume in Asia Pacific nearly doubled year-over-year in 2025. The company works with Australian customers including Hai Ha Money Transfer, Stables, Caleb & Brown, Flash Payments, and Independent Reserve.

The AFSL will be Ripple's 76th regulatory license globally. The company holds licenses across multiple jurisdictions, positioning it among the most regulated crypto firms internationally.

Ripple participates in industry initiatives including Project Acacia, led by the Reserve Bank of Australia, positioning the company as a bridge between incumbent financial systems and blockchain-based settlement technology.
