Two political experts were blown away on Thursday after President Donald Trump proved he "paid attention to nothing" that his war advisors are telling him.
Joanna Coles, chief content officer at The Daily Beast, and Michael Wolff, a journalist who has written four books about Trump, discussed how Trump's war in Iran is progressing on a new episode of their podcast, "Inside Trump's Head." Since Trump's coordinated bombing campaign with Israel began in late February, the Iranian regime has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for 20% of all energy trade.
Trump recently claimed that his administration didn't expect Iran to shut down the Strait of Hormuz in response to the U.S. attack. At the same time, Israel struck Iran's largest energy field on Wednesday, and experts have estimated that the energy infrastructure that was hit will take years to rebuild.
Coles and Wolff reacted on the podcast to a clip of Trump admitting that he didn't expect Iran to escalate.
"It's insane!" Coles explained. "He said that like a five-year-old, 'Well, I hit you, but you weren't supposed to hit me back.'"
Wolff added that there is "no explanation" for Trump's comments.
"You can only explain this by saying there was no preparation here," Wolff said. "He paid attention to nothing, any warnings that were given to him. He ignored or looked beyond or waved away, and it was back to obliteration."
