It’s only fitting that the two best players on the planet will meet in the final ATP match of 2025.
World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 2 Jannik Sinner will meet in the ATP Finals championship match on Sunday in Turin, Italy (noon ET, Tennis Channel.)
“It’s all been about these two players, the ‘New Two’ since the season started,” Jim Courier said on Tennis Channel.
“Both will be fresh, unbothered today, not long matches, They’ll be ready to go for a best-of-three bruising encounter.”
No. 2 Sinner took care of business first, taking out Alex de Minaur, 7-5, 6-2, in the first semifinal of the day.
No. 1 Alcaraz then defeated No. 8 Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-2, 6-4, in dominant fashion in the second semifinal. Alcaraz banged out 25 winners against 10 unforced errors and won 82% of points on his first serve.
Both Sinner and Alcaraz are undefeated in the tournament, and Sunday’s winner will take home $5,071,000.
They have split the four majors this season, with Sinner winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon and Alcaraz taking the French and US Opens.
Alcaraz won their last ATP encounter in the US Open final, while Sinner won their most recent encounter in the Six Kings Slam final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, taking home a record $6 million payday as a result.
Alcaraz is 10-5 against Sinner and has won seven of the last eight matches.
“I think I am a much better player than before, but I have to keep improving to be able to face them, because, to win a tournament, we start from the principle that you have to beat both, or at least one of them.
No matter who wins on Sunday, Alcaraz has already locked up the Year-End No. 1 ranking.
“If I had to choose another player to end up No. 1, I’d always choose him, he deserves it,” Sinner said of Alcaraz.
“I’m happy for him, but if I told you I was super happy… I’d be telling a lie! But he deserves it, he’s had an incredible season… he’s won two Slams, eight tournaments. He’s playing at a very high level, he’s competitive on any surface.”
“He had the pressure too, he managed it very well, but I’m glad for him. He’s a really good guy, he has a great team around him and he’s earned these achievements. For me, this is motivation for next year.”
