CCTP V1, released in April 2023, will now be considered a legacy version, with its deprecation phase set to begin on July 31, 2026. Circle has encouraged developers to transition to CCTP V2, which offers enhanced features and broader capabilities for cross-chain transactions.

Since its launch, CCTP has processed over $110 billion in volume and facilitated more than 5.3 million cross-chain transfers. The protocol is integral to applications, digital wallets, and exchanges that require secure and efficient cross-chain transactions.

Enhanced Features of CCTP V2

Launched on March 11, 2025, CCTP V2 introduces several new features:

  • Fast Transfers for near-instant cross-chain settlements.
  • Hooks for post-transfer automation and enhanced workflow integration.
  • Support across 17 blockchains, with further expansions planned.

Circle is committed to expanding CCTP V2’s capabilities, including supporting more assets and improving developer experience through tools like the Bridge Kit, which simplifies integration to less than ten lines of code.

Developer Guidance and Support

During the transition period, CCTP V1 will remain operational, allowing developers time to migrate their systems. Circle has provided a CCTP Migration Guide to assist in this process. Developers integrating CCTP for the first time are advised to use the V2 contracts.

Future Developments

As of the announcement, CCTP V2 is live on all V1-supported chains except Aptos, Noble, and Sui, with plans to extend support by mid-2026. Circle is also collaborating with Noble and Cosmos teams to facilitate USDC flows in the interim.
