Megan Thee Stallion has largely spent 2025 focusing on other parts of her life besides music. The Houston-bred MC released the one-off single “Whenever” in April, and in August, she made her TV host debut with the Apple TV competition series KPopped, which paired Western artists with K-pop idols to reimagine their hits. Over the summer, she also found love, sparking up a relationship with Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson.
Thompson and their romance is the subject of Megan’s new song, fittingly titled “Lover Girl,” out now. The song flips a sample of Total’s 1996 hit “Kissin’ You” to create a love song packed with attitude that only Megan Thee Stallion could deliver.
“Your n***a fantasy, my man reality / I had to lock in when I found out he could handle me / Some n***as call me extra, my n***a call me pressure / This s**t be easy when you find somebody on your level,” she raps on the track. “My n***a say ‘My lady,’ he never say ‘My b***h” / Some n***as make excuses, he make that s**t exist / Most n***as want attention, my n***a give me his.” Later on, she even hints at marriage, saying she’s “the type of fine [to] make a n***a run to that altar.”
Needless to say Megan has found peace both on and off stage at this phase in her life.
“I have never dated somebody so kind,” she gushed to Page Six in July after going public with her romance. “This is my first relationship where I’ve ever been with somebody who’s genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy. I just never dated somebody like him before and I’m just grateful that he’s here by my side and he feels the same way about me.”
With that personal fulfillment out of the spotlight, Megan continues to enjoy creative control of her musical output following her split with 1501 Certified Entertainment in 2023. Last year alone, she released two full-length projects: Her third studio album Megan and the reissue Megan: Act II.
“I have the freedom to say whatever I want to say and put something out whenever I feel like it,” she told Vogue last fall. “That’s why I was able to even put out two projects in one year… I literally can just wake up and decide to do it again tomorrow.”
Still, it doesn’t come without its challenges. “The other side is that I really am now my own boss, so I have to worry about the business side and the artist side,” she confessed. “I’m still kind of navigating my way through [that]. I’ve always considered myself a boss, but now I’m really in the boss seat.”
