Is DeFi about to break?

Is DeFi about to break?

The post Is DeFi about to break? appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 opens perpetual futures listing to anyone willing to stake $20 million. The question isn’t whether this democratizes the DeFi, but whether the safeguards can handle what comes next. Hyperliquid launched HIP-3 on mainnet in October 2025, introducing a model where any builder can deploy perpetual futures markets without committee approval. Deployers must stake 500,000 HYPE tokens, worth approximately $20 million at current prices, as collateral against any malicious behavior. Validators can slash part or all of the stake if a builder feeds manipulated prices, operates a market recklessly, or poses a threat to network solvency. Even during the seven-day unstaking period, the collateral remains vulnerable to slashing. The protocol burns slashed HYPE rather than distributing it to users, eliminating incentives for false accusations. The oracle problem Builders control their market’s price oracle and update logic entirely, allowing the listing of virtually any asset. Still, it introduces oracle manipulation risk, the type of vulnerability that enabled a $112 million exploit on Mango Markets in 2022, where an attacker manipulated a thin price feed to drain the platform. Hyperliquid addresses this by requiring builders to stake capital large enough to deter manipulation. The protocol also implements sanity checks through robust price indices and validator oversight. If a market’s feed fails or a contract expires, builders can invoke a halt function to settle positions at fair value and freeze trading. The system assumes builders will select reliable oracle sources because their stake depends on it. Validators monitor markets continuously and can slash deployers who use easily manipulated feeds or allow abnormal operation. Isolation and insurance Each builder-deployed-market operates as an isolated perpetual exchange with independent order books, margining, and risk parameters. Cross-margining with other assets is prohibited, preventing volatility in one market from contaminating others. HIP-3 enforces two types of open interest…

United Airlines (UAL) 3Q 2025 earnings

The post United Airlines (UAL) 3Q 2025 earnings appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Kevin Carter | Getty Images United Airlines on Wednesday forecast higher-than-expected earnings for the fourth quarter after a rocky start to 2025. The carrier expects to earn between $3 and $3.50 a share for the last three months of the year, compared with analysts’ estimate of $2.86 a share. United has been expanding its flying capacity, while its rivals have scaled back some of their growth plans after a glut of flights weighed on fares this year. The airline increased capacity 7% in the third quarter over last year. Unit passenger revenue for the three months ended Sept. 30 fell 3.3% for domestic travel and 7.1% for international. Sales from its lucrative loyalty program rose 9%. In an interview last month, United CEO Scott Kirby last month defended the airline’s growth plan and said the carrier was winning loyal customers through its network, new technology like complimentary inflight Wi-Fi, refreshed cabins and new lounges. “Those investments over almost a decade, combined with great service from our people, have allowed United to win and retain brand-loyal customers, leading to economic resilience even with macro economic volatility through the first three quarters of the year and significant upside as the economy and demand are improving in the fourth quarter,” Kirby said in a release on Wednesday. Still, for the third quarter, United beat earnings expectations, although its revenue fell short of estimates. Here is what United Airlines reported for the quarter that ended Sept. 30 compared with what Wall Street was expecting, based on estimates compiled by LSEG: Earnings per share: $2.78 adjusted vs. $2.62 expected Revenue: $15.23 billion vs. $15.33 billion expected United’s third-quarter revenue was $15.23 billion, up 2.6% from $14.84 billion last year.…

Is Sony The Next Crypto Bank? Tech Giant Applies For A National Charter In The US

Sony is making strides to enter the crypto banking sector through its financial arm, Sony Bank, as the Japanese group has recently submitted an application to US regulators for a national banking charter via its subsidiary, Connectia Trust.  This move signifies Sony’s intent to engage in various cryptocurrency-related activities, which include the issuance of US dollar-backed stablecoins, maintaining reserves, and providing custody and fiduciary management services for digital assets to select clients. Sony Seeks OCC Approval For Crypto Banking License In its national banking charter filing with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Sony emphasized that its proposed activities align with those already approved for other nationally chartered banks.  Related Reading: Hyperliquid Holders Left In The Dark: Monad Protocol Faces Scrutiny Over MON Airdrop Should the application be granted, Sony would join a select group of firms, including Stripe, crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN), Paxos, and stablecoin issuer Circle (CRCL), all of which are also pursuing federal crypto banking licenses. Currently, Anchorage Digital Bank is the only entity to have received full approval. If Connectia Trust secures approval from the OCC, it could emerge as one of the first major tech-bank hybrids authorized to issue regulated stablecoins in the United States.  Strengthening Digital Asset Presence This venture into the digital asset space is not Sony’s first. Earlier in 2025, the company collaborated with Startale Labs to introduce Soneiun, an Ethereum Layer-2 )L2) network tailored to enhance decentralized applications.  Related Reading: Tether Resolves Celsius Lawsuit With Major $300 Million Settlement Deal Now, with Connectia Trust, Sony is poised to synergize its financial expertise with blockchain technology, thereby expanding its footprint in the global digital asset ecosystem.  Featured image from DALL-E, chart from TradingView.com
