MANILA, Philippines – The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) lowered the fuel surcharge from level 19 to level 18 for the first half of May.
A fuel surcharge is an additional fee added to transportation costs to cover volatile fuel prices.
Despite the lower surcharge level, it remains high compared with the surcharge rate from January to March, which was at level 4.
Airlines that plan to impose surcharges must first secure approval from the CAB.
For domestic flights in the first half of May, the surcharge rate ranges from P627 to P1,834.
Meanwhile, international flight surcharge rate ranges from P1,958.44 to P14,561.87, depending on the distance or country of destination.
CAB also approved higher surcharge rates for domestic and international cargo.
“This interim measure shall be in effect until the current situation stabilizes, or as may be revised or revoked accordingly,” read part of the CAB advisory. – Rappler.com
