Etihad Rail has finished work on its first passenger station in Fujairah, with operations set to begin later this year.
Travel time between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi will be 105 minutes, with trains running at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and accommodating almost 400 passengers, the UAE state-owned Wam news agency reported.
Adhraa Al Mansoori, executive director of commercial for Etihad Rail, said passenger rail services linking Fujairah with Dubai and Abu Dhabi will create investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
The first phase will include the opening of three routes linking Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah, Al Mansoori said. Travel schedules will be announced closer to the time.
She said 70 percent of the materials used to develop the national railway network were sourced locally from 97 domestic suppliers.
In January Etihad Rail said that the network will connect 11 cities, with stations located in central areas such as Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah.
The first four stations – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah – were announced last year.
In January 2025 the ADQ-owned company announced plans to run a high-speed service that will reduce travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to 30 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour.
Etihad Rail and French transportation company Keolis Group set up a joint venture last year to operate passenger trains from 2026.
Etihad already runs a freight service across a 1,200km network in the UAE.
