Ride-hailing company Bolt has donated ₦5 million to the SOS Children’s Village in Lagos. This follows the successful completion of its “Rides That Care” campaign, an initiative put together to celebrate Children’s Day, running from May 27 to 31

With the initiative, the company aimed to transform everyday trips into support for vulnerable children and families across the country by committing a portion of earnings from rides completed during the period to support the work of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria.

Bolt says the initiative was designed to make giving simple and accessible, allowing riders to contribute to a meaningful cause through their regular journeys without any additional cost or action required on their part.

Speaking about the donation, Senior General Manager, West Africa, Teddy Appa-Dankyi, expressed elation at the response to the Rides That Care campaign.

“The response to the Rides That Care campaign demonstrates the impact that can be created when everyday actions are connected to a meaningful purpose. We are delighted to contribute five million to SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria and support the important work they do for vulnerable children and families. This initiative reflects our belief that mobility platforms can play a role beyond transportation by creating positive impact within the communities we serve,” he said.

Bolt supporting communities

Bolt says the donation will support SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria’s programmes. These programmes focus on child welfare, family strengthening, and ensuring children have access to the care and support they need to thrive.

It noted that the “Rides That Care” campaign forms part of Bolt’s broader commitment to supporting communities and leveraging its platform to create meaningful social impact.

“Through the campaign, thousands of everyday journeys collectively contributed to a cause aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children and families, demonstrating how small actions can create meaningful change when communities come together,” the company said.

It also noted that the donation was funded entirely by Bolt and did not affect drivers’ earnings at any stage of the campaign. Drivers continued to receive their normal earnings from completed trips without any deductions related to the initiative.

The company also disclosed, in a response to Technext, that it did not increase fares in its bid to fund the campaign, noting that all proceeds were from Bolt’s own earnings.

“Ride prices are not being changed as part of this campaign. The prevailing prices remain unchanged, and the donation amount will be deducted from Bolt’s commission. Throughout the campaign period, riders will not be required to take any additional steps or make separate donations, as contributions will be made automatically through eligible rides completed on the platform,” the company said.
