MANILA, Philippines – On April 29, 53 lawmakers unanimously voted in favor of the motion declaring that probable cause exists to impeach Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte. The committee vote sets the stage for plenary deliberations on the impeachment case against the Vice President, where a one-third vote results in her impeachment for a second time.

“From the misuse and abuse of confidential funds, bribery of Department of Education officials, to the alarming pattern of amassing unexplained wealth, to the gravity of threats and seditious incitement that strike at the very heart of our constitutional order, there exists probable cause to impeach the Vice President,” said ML Representative Leila de Lima, endorser of the first impeachment complaint.

On April 30, Elon Musk testified during a tense cross-examination that he knew about early discussions around turning OpenAI into a for-profit company but was reassured by co-founder Sam Altman that it would remain a nonprofit.

The world’s richest person is suing OpenAI, alleging that the company, its co-founder and CEO Altman, and its president Greg Brockman secured his $38 million in donations and personal help by promising to build a nonprofit that would prioritize safe development of AI, before pivoting to create a for-profit entity to enrich themselves.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump faced a deadline on May 1 to end the Iran war or make the case to Congress for extending it, but the date passed without altering the course of a conflict that has lapsed into a standoff over shipping routes.

Ending the war appears highly unlikely.
