Tron: Ares, the third movie in the beloved sci-fi series, arrived in theaters on Friday, Oct. 10. Want to see the movie again or waiting to watch it at home? Here’s everything to know about Tron: Ares’ expected streaming timeline on Disney+ and digital platforms.

Critics gave Tron: Ares a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences rated it higher at 87%. This surpasses Tron: Legacy‘s 51% score, though the original 1982 film still holds the highest critics’ rating at 60%.

“Leto does well here as the title character, able to deliver a few good lines while executing a rock star strut in a skintight suit… But it’s Lee who steals the show, a very human action heroine for 2025,” Mark Kennedy from The Associated Press penned.

Meanwhile, IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich wrote that Tron: Ares “is a film whose only goal is to make Tron into a renewable resource in its own right… If nothing else, Ares might just be relevant, palatable, and undemanding enough to pull that off.”

Tron: Ares is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, so the film will eventually be available to stream on Disney+. The streaming service has not yet announced a release date, but fans can expect the movie to arrive on Disney+ about three to four months after its theatrical debut.

Since Tron: Ares was released on Friday, Oct. 10, the film is expected to be available on Disney+ in early 2026, likely around January or February.

For comparison, Captain America: Brave New World premiered in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025, and was released on Disney+ in May, about three and a half months later. Moana 2 debuted in theaters in November 2024 and landed on Disney+ just over three months later. The Disney prequel Mufasa: The Lion King also arrived on the platform roughly three months after its release.

To watch Tron: Ares when the movie arrives on Disney+, you’ll need to sign up for a subscription to the streaming platform. Plans start at $10.99 per month for the basic option (with ads). Note: The price will increase to $12.99/month on Oct. 21, 2025.

Before Tron: Ares premieres on Disney+, the film will be available to purchase or rent sooner on digital video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV+. New release prices typically range from $24.99 to $29.99 to buy and $19.99 to $24.99 for a 48-hour rental.

Studios generally make their movies available digitally 45 to 65 days after their theatrical debut. However, the timing can vary depending on box office performance — the better a film performs in theaters, the longer it typically takes to reach digital platforms. Disney often leans toward the longer end of that window.

For example, Disney’s summer blockbusters Freakier Friday and Fantastic Four: First Steps both took nearly two months to arrive on digital sites. Therefore, it’s likely that Tron: Ares will be available digitally around early December 2025.
