This was kind of confusing at first. JELLY and PEBBLE? STONE and DINNER? It wasn’t until I got the spangram—ROCKANDROLL—that it started to make sense. The very clever thing about this odd Strands grid is that all the ROCKS are up above the spangram and all the ROLLS are down below, and the shape of the spangram actually hints at this. Well played, NYT puzzle-setters. Well played.
