Compass Coffee, a popular chain of 27 locations in Washington, D.C., showcased the new technology during DC Fintech Week, allowing customers to pay for coffee using Bitcoin via the Lightning Network through standard Square cash registers. This pilot marks the first real-world deployment of the new Bitcoin payment system announced by Square's parent company, Blockchain, last Wednesday.
