How World Gymnastics Championships Works

This year’s world championship is an individual event, meaning there will be no men’s or women’s team competitions. Thus, all athletes are competing for individual medals.

Competition begins late Saturday, October 18, with men’s qualifications and runs through Friday, October 25. The women’s qualifications start on October 19. To advance to an event final, athletes must finish in the top 24 in the all-around qualifications or in the top eight on an individual apparatus.

Only two athletes may qualify per country for an all-around or event final. Thus, to make a final, an athlete must be among the top 24 (or eight) and the second or first-ranked athlete in their country.

Though every event will occur in the Western Indonesian Time Zone, fans worldwide will have access to live streaming of the championship.

Every session, from the qualifying rounds to the medal events, will be live-streamed on Eurovision Sport. Fans may need to create a free account to stream and/or utilize a VPN in certain countries to use Eurovision Sport.

Gymnastics Indonesia is also planning to live-stream all qualifying rounds on its federation YouTube channel, which can be found here.

For U.S.-based viewers, NBC Sports will provide live coverage of the medal rounds (event finals) on Peacock and will re-air the men’s and women’s all-around finals on NBC and CNBC, respectively.
