Passenger traffic up 10% at Jordan’s Queen Alia airport

Passenger traffic at Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan rose to nearly 9 million in the first 11 months of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.  

Airport International Group, which operates Queen Alia International, said passenger numbers for November were up 25 percent year on year, reaching 782,481. Cargo traffic remained almost flat at 6,164 tonnes.

Over the 11 months, aircraft movements increased by 8.5 percent to 73,249, but cargo traffic fell 8 percent to 64,237 tonnes.

Royal Jordanian is building an air cargo operations centre at the Amman airport as part of a $40 million logistics project, according to local reports. A $30 million hangar for Jordan Aircraft Maintenance Company was opened by King Abdullah in September.

In a statement accompanying the passenger numbers, Airport International Group’s CEO, Nicolas Deviller, pointed to “ongoing investments in our airport infrastructure and the growing commitment of airlines choosing to operate and expand” at Queen Alia airport.

Last year the Jordanian government granted the airport operator, which is 51 percent owned by Paris-based Groupe ADP, a seven-year extension of its build-operate-transfer concession agreement. The deal runs until 2039.

Queen Alia airport is expected to contribute JOD3.9 billion ($5.5 billion) to GDP by 2032 and support 278,000 jobs, according to Airport International Group.
